Yesterday was the Girls Write Now Poetry Workshop on short poetry forms, co-led by yours truly. I have to admit I was pretty much shaking in my sneakers and I wore a dark shirt so that the girls couldn't see how my pits were sweating profusely. The sections I had to lead were for the… Continue reading Oh hai Haibun

I’ll be standing at the podium
Ok, technically I won't be standing at an actual podium, but I will be one of the poets featured in the next issue of Podium, the 92nd Street Y Unterberg Poetry Center's online literary journal. Currently, Podium only publishes the work of students in their poetry workshops. The workshop leaders choose a student to represent… Continue reading I’ll be standing at the podium

Jerry Orbach Gave the Gift of Sight to Two New Yorkers
Yes, that is the long title to one of two new poems that are featured in the October 2010 issue of MiPOesias. A Poem as Biography
My friend asked me to write her bio for her website as a poem. I've written plenty of bios before in my day job as a publicist/writer--but never a bio written in poem form. She also wanted specific things mentioned in the bio, and at first it was pretty tough to get those things to… Continue reading A Poem as Biography
Life Cycle of a Star
So here it is: my poem "Life Cycle of a Star" in the final issue of The November 3rd Club. I'm glad I made it into this last issue--check out the archives, there's a lot of good writing that's been posted there over the past five years. I got the idea after reading yet another… Continue reading Life Cycle of a Star
